A walk in the Welsh Mountains
August 2013 and a weekend away in Wales close to Bala. Son Matthew (aka Billy), (aka Matt of Donny Outdoors fame) took a walk up the Aran Ridge. Big skies in Wales and big hills too. We did the hills in red.
EOS 5DMKIII with a jolly nice… 21mm by Zeiss.
The detail and colours with this lens are second to none.
This is Billy.
And this is Billy, but a bit taller.
and a bit smaller.
This is Heather.
Bala in the distance.
In the clouds.
What you can’t see here is how far we had to go down before we could start climbing what looks like a small mound directly ahead.
Just when you think you have the mountain to yourself…
The summit. Look closely and you will see the enclosure built of loose stones. I did this walk again in 2014 and had the foresight on that occasion to bring chilli and rice and special pee in the bag (you can use ordinary water instead) heaters. Hot chilli on top of a mountain… luxury!
The weather was really good to us. The visibility was perfect and the views just amazing.
Billy looking apparently thoughtful. He was thinking about chips.
Almost down and I am thinking about chips too.
